Good Spa

Google It”

The easiest way to find a spa is to “Google it.” If you’re looking for a  spa, type in “spas” and your town name and see what business results come up. Go to their websites and see what kind of spa treatments they offer and how much they cost. Look at photos. Check reviews, for example, on Trip Advisor, so you can get an overall feeling for the place and read several reviews and doesn’t rely on just one comment as you can’t please all of the people all of the time Read about the owners and their philosophy. Do you like what you see? Does it fit your style and budget?

If so, give them a call. You’ll be able to find out a lot about the spa by how knowledgeable and helpful the staff is. Can they describe the treatments? Can they recommend a massage therapy based on what style you like?

or Ask for friends for reference: A good spa shall get lots of guest through word of mouth

DO NOT get carried away with discount or promotional offers. Spa is once in a fortnight or once in a month experience for most of people. No one wants a stiff back or limping leg after a massage at a bad Spa!

Cleanliness

Make Sure the Spa is clean. A good spa is a clean spa. Cleanliness is very important. Cheap spas save money by cutting corners .Spa treatments, if performed improperly or in unsanitary conditions, could potentially lead to infections. Feel free to ask them about their safety and cleanliness practices.

DO NOT rely on website images. Ensure that images that are shown on website are actual Spa photos and not Stock photos. Or you may be watching Switzerland Spa photos in confines of your home in India.

Therapist

Ultimately, the most important component of a great day spa is the quality of the personnel. A good therapist should be able to put you at ease from the start. And some people are more gifted and committed than others. You can usually feel the difference between the people who are going through the motions and the people who love what they do. Don’t accept trainees who are learning on the job and practising on you. Don’t let them just go through the motions. Spas can save money by employing inexperienced trainees. If they don’t know what they are doing, they can damage you.

Ask therapist for moderating pressure as per your liking or focus on your pain area to get required treatment effect

DO NOT get carried away by looks of a therapist. Always looking for a cheerful personality with positive energy and good training and experience. Every extra massage experience of a therapist adds to comfort and relaxation of subsequent therapies

Customer Service

Customer service is a huge element of your spa experience. A talented staff should make you happy, relaxed and comfortable. They should interact with you and concentrate just on you and will patiently explain your treatments. You are going to enjoy yourself much more at a spa like that. You are going to enjoy yourself much more where a technician is kind, considerate, and make sure you are comfortable.

DO NOT be in a hurry and demanding. Let the experience go smoothly and without any heckles for you. After all you have come for relaxation. Leave your bossy side in office or at home:)

Price

Many people have a misconception when it comes to prices at spas. Don’t choose a spa just because it’s cheap or it’s expensive. You’re looking for a place where you are getting quality service, customer satisfaction, while paying a reasonable price in exchange for what you are getting.

The important thing to remember is that you shouldn’t go with the first spa you run across. Instead, it’s a better idea to do your research and even try a few different places until you find one that works best for you. Before long, you’ll realize just how much you love the spa experience and will want a repeat of that all over again!

DO NOT go for Spa with low price or more discount. Lot of times, more discount means that Spa doesn’t have demand. Low price comes at the cost of quality and you may be compromising your health!

What to expect before your Massage treatment:

First of all, make sure it is a good time for you to have a massage. Reschedule your visit if have a fever, skin irritations (such as poison ivy or sunburn), or if you are trying to stabilize your medication (because massage can affect the dosage needed). Do not eat just before your massage. Drink plenty of water. Give yourself enough time to arrive on time and relaxed. If you are rushing and arrive stressed, it will take longer to get into a relaxed state.

The beginning of the appointment will involve a health and history screening. You’will be asked questions such as:

  • General lifestyle – sedentary or travelling or home maker
  • Problematic areas & amount of pain
  • What helps to reduce the pain and what make it worse
  • Your general contact info
  • Please state any medical issues

The next step before your appointment will be the discussion while your room is getting ready. This is a good time to ask questions, and find out about the style of massage that you have requested. When you are ready you will dress down as far as is comfortable and lie down for your session.

During the massage:

Generally, you will lie on a massage table, covered by a sheet or large towel. Make sure you are comfortable and let the therapist know if you are not. Remember that you can ask for changes to make you comfortable, such as if you are cold, or wish to let the massage therapist know that you are uncomfortable with specific areas of your body being touched.

Also, advise massage therapist regarding extent of pressure you will prefer. The massage therapist will typically drape your body with a towel across the parts that are not currently being massaged.

To get the most from the session just try to relax, let your thoughts wander, and do not focus on stressful thoughts. Remember to breathe, as this helps you relax. Sometimes people hold their breath when a sensitive area is massaged, but it is best to breathe through it. In the same way, tightening your muscles during the massage is counterproductive. If you can’t seem to relax your muscles, let your massage therapist know. They may need to adjust the massage technique.

After the massage:

At the end of the massage, the therapist will leave the room so you can take steam/Shower and dress in private. Wait a few minutes on the table as you get grounded, especially if you feel light-headed. Then take your time getting ready.

When you leave the treatment room and enter into the reception area, the therapist will offer you Green tea. It is a good idea to drink green tea to help the body flush waste product.  Most people leave their massage therapy treatments feeling very relaxed. However if you received deep tissue work, you may experience slight tenderness that lasts for a day or two. We recommend that you drink plenty of water after your treatment in order to flush away any toxins that were released during the massage.

Here are some frequently asked questions you may have after your massage treatment:

  • Can I go back to work after my massage?Of course, but plan on enough time to readjust. Be aware that your perception of motion (driving, stairs, distances may be “off” for 20 minutes or so after the session). Also, realize your relaxed state may bring your feelings close to the surface.
  • Will the oil ruin my clothes or mess my hair? No, the oil will not harm your clothing, but if you wish, wear some comfortable workout clothing.
  • Should I tip the massage therapist? It is nice to let the therapist know that you appreciate a good job, but tipping is not the only way, especially if the cost of the massage therapy is already a burden. Regardless of your decision, it is wise to be consistent, so that you do tip one time and not the next and leave the therapist wondering if they did something wrong.

Body Massage – Does it help? How often?

Does Body Massage help? What is the right frequency of Body Massage?

Few years ago the question used to be – Does body massage help to fight back pain? Since then there have been numerous studies which have led medical practitioners to advocate massage therapy as a safe, non-invasive, low risk method for controlling back pain. Back massage provides physical benefits by manipulating soft tissues and massage which leads to pain alleviation. In addition to physical benefits massage therapy provides psychological comfort by release of ‘endorphins’ (feel good chemicals) in the body.

Massage for Back Pain

Now a days question is – How often should we get a massage for our back and body. Massage therapy is now well accepted as a credible method for pain management on its own or in conjunction with other medical treatments. The frequency of massage for general well-being of back & body depends on life style and current state of back muscles.

In addition to release of endorphins resulting in mood upliftment and positive thought process, massage therapy provides benefits based on couple of important principles:

Improved blood circulation: When you undergo a massage therapy like Swedish Massage, it results in faster blood circulation that helps release toxins faster from the body and provides nutrition to tired muscles and tissues. This aids not just for general body relaxation and rejuvenation but also helps fight soft tissues injury and muscle soreness. Ayurvedic therapy like Abhyangam massage, which is performed using ayurvedic oils like Dhanwantram, is even more effective and further improves blood circulation.

Sports persons use massage therapy on a regular basis to keep themselves to keep fit and to recover from a hard day’s work. No wonder all professional sports teams regularly employ best trained masseurs.

Reduced muscle tension – A therapy like Balinese Massage therapy that combines back and body stretching with oil based tissue manipulation massage significantly reduces the tension in muscles which eases the pain due to tight muscles, improves back flexibility and rejuvenated entire body.

Thia massage

Generally a body massage once a month is good to keep your back muscles happy. But if you have a busy or stressful lifestyle, which makes you drive long hours, or spend long hours standing or worse, spend continuous long hours working on screen, you are putting your back, neck and shoulder under considerable stress. To take care of your taut & overworked muscles you need to undergo massage therapy more frequently.
Whatever be your frequency of body massage, always remember to take good care of your muscles. Keeping your muscles in relaxed and tension free mode will go a long way in having a healthy and mobile lifestyle.
